Headquarters 2 Division NA Will Sustain Partnership With Tiger and Ibadan Golf Clubs To Ensure Improved Relationships — Major General Onubogu
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Obinna Onubogu, received members of Tiger and Ibadan Golf Clubs, who were on a courtesy visit to him in his office, at HQ 2 Division NA Ibadan, on 6 June 2024.
Remarking during the visit, the GOC, stated that golfing is a very unique sports which has the capacity to develope the physical, technical and strategic abilities of its players. He enjoined none members in the Division to enroll in the game, while promising that HQ 2 Division under his command, will sustain the already existing partnership which the Division has long developed with the Golf Clubs.
The GOC, further appreciated Alhaji Gbenga Zubair and Mr Seyi Alaba, who are Captains of Tiger and Ibadan Golf Clubs respectively, as well as other club members, for deeming it necessary to visit the Division with the aim of deepening the existing relationships. “Thank you for coming. The clubs’ relationships with 2 Division is strong; and we will be glad to continue to grow the partnerships in order to improve the status and effectiveness of your clubs and various activities.” He promised the Captains, that the Division will make out time to participate in their kitty days and also support them in other areas necessary.
Speaking earlier, the Captain, Tiger Golf Club, Alhaji Gbenga Zubair, expressed gratitude to the GOC for granting them audience, while congratulating him on his recent appointment as GOC 2 Division. He noted that the Club’s increase from 9 to 18 holes, was the product of continuous support which the club had received from past GOCs. While appreciating the past GOCs for their contributions, the captain stated that his administration is determined to develop a standard Golf course, with classic players who will be the pride of the NA; and can compete with any Golf Club in the country and in America.
Alhaji Zubair, also informed the GOC, that hole 1, which is the Chief Tiger’s hole, has been constructed to comform with world best standard, and will be commissioned in due course. He added that holes 6, 15 and 16 are currently being redesigned, adding that the signature hole which is 15, will be the longest in West Africa on completion, judging by its distance.
Similarly, the Captain, Ibadan Golf Club, Mr Seyi Alaba, said the courtesy visit was in line with the club’s culture, particularly at times, when the Division witnesses a change in command. “It has been one of the strategic ways Ibadan Golf Club uses to appreciate the Division and further strengthen good relationship. We hold in high esteem, our relationship with 2 Division, and we do not take it for granted”, he added. He appealed to the GOC, to find time to visit the club and play with its members, stressing that his presence will serve as encouragement to all players and further boost their interest in the game.
Presentation of souvenirs, signing of visitor’s book and group photographs climaxed the event.
