
Headquarters 8 Division Provides Free Eye Care Services In Observance Of World Sight Day 2025
In recognition of World Sight Day 2025, Headquarters 8 Division, Nigerian Army, has provided free comprehensive eye care services to its personnel and their families. The initiative, themed “Love Your Eyes: Access to Eye Care for All,” was aimed to promote eye health awareness and ensure access to vital vision care within the military community.
The two-day event, which would be conducted between 9 -10 October 2025, at the Lieutenant General TY Buratai Auditorium, Giginya Cantonment, included a range of services such as eye consultations, vision screenings, provision of necessary medications, and distribution of eyeglasses.
The programme commenced with a rally within the cantonment. It was aimed to raise awareness about the importance of regular eye examinations and preventative care.
The General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FANSAN YAMMA,Major General Ibikunle Ademola Ajose, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigeria Army and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West Operation FASSAN YAMMA represented by the Commander 8 Division Garrison Brigadier General Abdulmalik Mohammed, expressed his strong support for the initiative. He stated that the initiative underscores the Division’s commitment to the well-being of personnel and their families. He noted that access to quality eye care is essential for maintaining operational readiness and overall quality of life. He urged all eligible individuals to take advantage of the valuable services.
The free eye care programme reflects the Nigerian Army’s dedication to the health and welfare of its members and their families. By providing access to these critical services, Headquarters 8 Division is contributing to the prevention of avoidable blindness and promoting a healthier, more productive community
