
Headquarters NAEC Wraps Up 2025 Activities In Grand Style With WASA Celebration
The Headquarters, Nigerian Army Education Corps (NAEC), recently concluded its 2025 activities with the West African Social Activities (WASA), a highly regimented and organized event was held at the Command Children School Sports Complex, Yaba, Lagos State.
WASA is a traditional end-of-year celebration in the Nigerian Army that brings officers, men and their families together to mark the conclusion of a successful training year. It features cultural displays, music, dance, and social interaction, fostering unity and morale. It’s a way to unwind, reflect, and celebrate achievements in a relaxed, community atmosphere.
In his welcome address, the Acting Commander Nigerian Army Education Corps (CC ED) and Chief Host, Brigadier General Yushau Dogara Ahmed, described the event as a morale-building platform that strengthens unity, regimental bonds and military integration, noting that operational effectiveness depends on disciplined personnel and cohesive units.
General Ahmed thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu (Nigerian Army Medal), for the confidence response in him and appreciated ongoing infrastructural upgrades in Command Schools as well as commended NAEC officers, soldiers and their families for their resilience, selfless service and dedication.
The CC EDN, further highlighted NAEC’s advances in teaching quality and defense focused Research, Development and innovation (RD&I) at Nigerian Army College of and Environmental Studies (NACEST) and Nigerian Army College of Education (NACOE), including work on Drones, Improvised Explosive Device (IED) robotics and Smart Armory Systems.
General Ahmed, added that Command Schools students are now integrated into RD&I programmes, noting that NACEST has been designated as Nigerian Army (NA) RD&I Focal Unit and NAEC personnel has continue to excel across formation, reaffirming NAEC’s commitment to innovation and operational readiness.
Delivering his remarks, the Special Guest of Honor (SGoH) Major General KO Ogunkoya (rtd), express gratitude to almighty God for his guidance and blessings, describing the celebration as a reflection of divine favour and institutional cohesion. He commended the Acting CC EDN for the warmth reception, well organized event and reaffirmed that WASA as a cherished Nigerian Army tradition that promotes cultural tolerant and strengthens national unity.
The SGoH appreciated COAS, for sustaining NA infrastructural intervention in Nigerian Military School (NMS) and across Command Schools, highlighting their positive impact on welfare, morale and educational standard for NA personnel and their families.
He therefore urged NAEC officers, soldiers and Civilian Staff to reciprocate the COAS’s gestures by upholding the Corps enduring standard for excellence, loyalty and professionalism and aim higher greater achievement in 2026.
Dignitaries at the event included the General officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division NA, Major General AA Babalola, ably represented by CC EDN Brigadier General YD Ahmed, Maj General SK Oni (rtd), Brigadier General CA Bossman, (rtd) Senior officers, gentlemen officers, Paramilitary, soldiers, families, well wishers amongst others.
Highlights of the event includes cultural displays, Tug of war, refreshments, tour of stands, presentation of awards and souvenirs, lighting of bonfire and group photograph.
