Hosting Your AGM In Port Harcourt Demonstrates Peace and Security In Niger Delta Region – GOC 6 Division

The hosting of your Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Port Harcourt, clearly demonstrated that peace and security thrive in the Niger Delta Region (NDR). The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah restated this when he received in audience members of the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, Class of 1974 – 79, who paid him a courtesy call at Headquarters, 6 Division in Port Harcourt Barracks.

The GOC thanked them for the choice of Port Harcourt and further reassured that the entire NDR is peaceful for socio-economic activities. He maintained that it is validation that there is peace and security in the entire region. He congratulated them for the 71 years of existence of NMS, Zaria. Major General Emekah commended them for their cooperation and togetherness, as well as appreciated their efforts to excel in their various fields of endeavor. He urged them to continue their good work and to reach out to their members who are not doing well in their careers or health-wise.

While stating the purpose of their visit, the Chairman of NMS Class of 74/79, Air Commodore Ayodeji Odunayo (retired) stated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria, particularly 6 Division, is doing so much in shaping the security narrative in the NDR. He further maintained that the Association deemed it necessary to formally appreciate the involvement of the Division in providing security for socio-economic activities to thrive in the NDR.

The Chairman pointed out that the NMS Class of 74/79 is unique; hence, they decided to host their AGM in Port Harcourt to celebrate themselves and have a holistic review of their activities. He highlighted some major activities that would be unveiled during the period, including a visit to the Home for the Elderly in Port Harcourt, where they are expected to provide some sort of social support for them. This will be followed by an AGM, sporting activities, culminating with dinner in honour of the members of the Association. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour.
