House of Reps. Charges New Service Chiefs To Tackle Insecurity Challenges With Needed Urgency

The House of Representatives has charged the newly decorated Service Chiefs to tackle the security challenges facing the country with the urgency required to restore an atmosphere that will allow Nigerians to go about their daily activities on a scale that will speed up social and economic recovery.

The charge followed President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s decoration of Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff on Monday.

The House recognizes that the Service Chiefs came on board at a time when Nigeria sorely needs military leaders that can come up with innovative solutions that combine kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to ending the security challenges besetting the nation.

While we are aware of the enormous challenge ahead of the Service Chiefs and its implications for the country, we are nonetheless confident that they will bring to bear their years of experience in rising to their current positions as the impetus to hit the ground running especially since Nigerians are eager for results.

We urge them to prioritize collaboration among the agencies of the Armed Forces and other law enforcement agencies to ensure total success in dealing with Nigeria’s security challenges even as we urge that they committedly adhere to globally acceptable rules of engagement to ensure respect for human rights in the discharge of their assignment.

The House congratulates the Service Chiefs and wishes them success in the all-important assignment they have embarked on for the nation.
