How Drivers, Conductors Spread Coronavirus – Police
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu said that the drivers and conductors of commercial vehicles are contributing to the spread of coronavirus in the State.
CP Hakeem Odumosu disclosed this in a press conference on Tuesday at the Lagos State
Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
He said that series of investigations by the Command revealed that drivers and
conductors have facemasks they give to commuters that board their buses.
When the passengers alight from the bus, they collect the facemasks and give them to
other passengers to use.
According to the CP, this is the new strategy they have adopted to avoid being arrested.
Therefore, CP Odumosu is appealing to the leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to sensitize the transporters on the novel coronavirus.
“Anyone arrested in this act would not be spared, both the driver and conductor would be
prosecuted,” he intoned.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Command has arrested 1434 violators within the last one
week. 820 of them were arrested for violating curfew, 134 were arrested for not wearing
a facemask, 80 were arrested for not maintaining social distancing and 208 were arrested
for interstate travel.
123 vehicles, 322 motorcycles, and 29 tricycles were impounded by the State Command.
