I Take The Well-being Of Women Very Seriously – Aisha Buhari
Wife of the President, Dr. Mrs. Aisha Buhari has reiterated her commitment to the well-being of women in Nigeria. She was speaking during the commissioning of the Aisha Buhari Foundation Maternity Complex at Federal Medical Center, Yola.
“I take the well-being of women as one cardinal mission in my life, and through Future Assured and Aisha Buhari Foundation, I am doing my best to optimize the well-being and especially the health of women.” She said.
The construction of the maternity complex by Aisha Buhari Foundation, she said, is in line with Federal Government’s efforts at improving access to quality healthcare services in the country.
“My hope is that it will lead to a considerable reduction in the rate of maternal morbidity and mortality in Adamawa state and beyond.”
She called on the state government to provide the necessary staff and logistics to enable the complex operate at maximum capacity and encouraged women to utilize services to be provided by the facility.
She reiterated that maternal and child mortality is a serious health challenge, which requires support from all quarters before it can be tamed and called on all stakeholders and well-to-do Nigerians to turn the tide by supporting Government efforts in addressing the challenges facing the citizens of this country, especially women and children.
She thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for assenting to the National Health Act, which she noted as a landmark achievement, and hoped that most of the challenges that lead to maternal mortality will soon be addressed.
Earlier, the Medical Director of Federal Medical Center, Professor Auwal M. Abubakar thanked Mrs. Buhari for constructing the maternity complex as it will reduce the burden of the hospital. He promised that management will make the best use of the complex. He conducted Mrs. Buhari and other guests round the complex, which included multiple consultation rooms, ante-natal clinics, a gynaecology ward and clinic, ultra sound room, emergency operations theater, pharmacy, family planning clinic and a 200 – capacity ante-natal waiting area.
Chairman, UBA Plc and Heirs Holdings, Chief Tony Elumelu performed the tape cutting ceremony to declare the complex inaugurated.
The commissioning ceremony was part of activities to mark the inauguration of the President and mark 20th anniversary of democracy in Nigeria and was witnessed by the First Ladies of Niger, Chad, Gambia, Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire as well as other dignitaries.
