I’ll Beat Oprah Winfrey If She Runs For President – Donald Trump

After her powerful speech at the Golden Globes on Sunday, there have been calls for the chat show host to take him on in three years time

Donald Trump has bragged that he would win against Oprah Winfrey if she ran for US President.

With calls for the chat show host to take him on in 2020, Trump yesterday said: “Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah.

“Oprah would be a lot of fun. I know her very well.”

He added: “I don’t think she’s going to run.”

It came after the star’s speech at Sunday’s Golden Globes, when she praised women who spoke up against sexual harassment.

She has previously said she has no plans to run for the White House.

However, sources close to Oprah have said she is “actively considering” it since the awards.

The sources told CNN anonymously the people closest to have been urging her to run.

One source revealed that these conversations have been going on for months, and also added that Oprah hasn’t made up her mind either way at present.

The battle to see who will run as Democratic candidate is expected to start after this year’s midterm elections in November.

In Oprah’s moving speech she honoured women around the world, especially those who have suffered abuse.

She declared that for women: “A new day is on the horizon.”

Oprah’s net worth is estimated at over £2billion, which would certainly come in handy in funding a future presidential campaign.

The star’s partner, Stedman Graham , told the Los Angeles Times: “It’s up to the people. She would absolutely do it.”

Oprah won the Cecil B DeMille award and in her acceptance speech called out “brutally powerful men” who abuse and assault women and have been getting away with it for too long.

In the wake of the huge #MeToo campaign started in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, Oprah paid tribute to the women who have stood up and spoken out about the sexual harassment they’ve received.

“What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have,” she told the teary-eyed audience at the Golden Globes.

“And I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories.”

The 63-year-old interviewer and actress also spoke about her black heroes, including Rosa Parks, Sidney Poitier and the rape victim and campaigner Recy Taylor, who died on December 28 just days before her 98th birthday, having never received justice for the brutal attack by six armed white men in the Jim Crow era.

Oprah was given a standing ovation as she finished off her speech with a call to arms.

“I want all the girls watching here, now, to know that a new day is on the horizon,” she said.

“And when that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us to the time when nobody ever has to say ‘me too’ again.”
