
Indigenes Jubilate In Zamfara As Operation Fansan Yamma Donates Fertilizers To Farmers, Reaffirms Commitment To Ensuring Food Security Through Civil-Military Cooperation Initiatives
As part of ongoing efforts by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) to ensure lasting peace and stability across the North West Zone as well as parts of North Central, the Theatre Commander OPFY, Major General OO Soyele, on 2 September 2025, donated 200 bags of fertilizer to farmers in Tsafe Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State. The gesture, which is aimed at enhancing the farmers’ yield, would also go a long way in improving the livelihood of communities within the OPFY Theatre.
The Theatre Commander OPFY represented by the Theatre Logistics Component Commander Brigadier General Nkemakolam Mbaka handed over the bags of the fertilizer to the Emir of Tsafe, HRH Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Bawa as part of the Theatre’s corporate social responsibility under the civil-military cooperation initiatives of the Defence Headquarters. The Theatre Commander further reiterated the importance of the non-kinetic initiative stating that it would help boost agricultural development, foster civil-military cooperation and strengthen the farmers resolve to return to their farms admist ongoing operations targeted at making farming communities safe.
The Theatre Commander also thanked the Emir of Tsafe as well as the government and people of Zamfara in general for their support in the fight against terrorism and banditry. He noted that the fertilizer distribution initiative was facilitated by the support received from Army Headquarters and other Services. He implored the farmers to make best use of the products towards ensuring higher yield.
The Emir of Tsafe HRH Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Bawa, while expressing appreciation to the Theatre Commander described the gesture as timely and assured that the inputs would significantly boost food production and enhance the livelihood of farmers in the area. He urged his subjects to continue supporting the troops in the attainment of the OPFY mandate.
The event was attended by community leaders, representative of the Chairman Tsafe LGA, and members of the host community among others, all of whom lauded the Theatre’s proactive approach to community development and resilience.
