International Security Cooperation: IGP Egbetokun Hosts U.S. INL Delegation, Focuses On Strengthening Special Intervention Squad (SIS) Capabilities

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM has received a high-level delegation from the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. The delegation was led by the Acting INL Director, Dr. Douglas Grane, alongside the In-Country Project Manager, Randy Holliday, and INL Program Officer from Washington, D.C., Charsaree Slomka.

The engagement sought to deepen ongoing collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the United States Government, with particular emphasis on enhancing the operational efficiency of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and evaluating milestones achieved in addressing emerging security threats across the country.

Speaking during the visit, the head of the delegation highlighted that the mission aimed to assess current SIS progress and explore areas requiring improved operational capacity, enhanced intelligence support, and targeted resource deployment. He noted that findings from the assessment would inform the 2026 strategic support framework, especially in the areas of modern equipment and advanced tactical training.

The Inspector-General of Police expressed appreciation for the sustained support from the U.S. Government through INL, particularly in the provision of logistics and specialized capacity-building for SIS operatives. He outlined the significant impact of the Squad in combating violent criminality nationwide, including counter-separatist operations in the South-East and joint rescue interventions conducted alongside the Office of the National Security Adviser and other security stakeholders.

IGP Egbetokun reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intelligence-driven policing and sustained global partnerships as critical elements in advancing national security and public safety.
