Kwara State Governor Commissions Nigerian Army Projects At 22 Armoured Brigade Ilorin, Applauds The Army For Maintaining Security Of Nigeria

The Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, Malam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, CFR, on 10 February 2025, commissioned some Nigerian Army (NA) Projects at 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin; executed by the Commander, 22 Brigade, Major General Oluwafemi Williams. The commissioning was done in company of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division NA, Major General Obinna Onubogu.

Remarking during the event, Governor Abdulrahman, expressed gratitude for the honour given him to commission the Quarter Guard and other projects in the Brigade. He noted that the funds appropriated by Government through the National Assembly, trickle down to the military, not just for purchase of weapons and equipment, rather they are equally utilized for infrastructure development, in order to ensure work efficiency. He thanked the NA, for its continued efforts towards maintaining security in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.

Similarly, the GOC, appreciated Governor Abdulrahman for his contributions towards sustained peace in Kwara State; attributing it to his continuous support of the NA in all its operations. Accordingly, he noted that the vehicles, and motorcycles received during the commissioning, would be launched into ongoing operations in the state, while other facilities would enhance operational efficiency of the Brigade. Reiterating on the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Command Philosophy, General Onubogu, said NA troops in 2 Division, will continue to work in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure security of its Area of Responsibility (AOR).

While delivering his opening remarks, Major General Williams, commended his predecessors for the efforts they made during their tenure towards maintaining renovation of the Brigade complex and other facilities. He further noted that the complex developed leakages from the roof felting; requiring major renovations and total replacement of the felting, in order to salvage the entire complex.

He added that the replacement of the old roof felting, as well as other renovation works, was in line with the COAS’ Command Philosophy, which seeks to emplace necessary structures to motivate troops; leaving them willing and battle ready to effectively discharge their constitutional roles. “These are in order to give the Brigade complex a more befitting outlook and create a conducive working environment for officers and soldiers in the Brigade Headquarters (HQ)”, he said.

The Brigade Commander, further thanked Governor Abdulrahman, for his interventions towards the completion of the projects; adding that the operational enablers as provided by the Governor, would assist the Brigade to achieve its goals and objectives. He also appreciated the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede (NAM), for the resources and logistics requirements made available for the projects, while thanking the GOC, for providing strategic guidance throughout the processes of executing the projects.

Amongst the projects commissioned, were; newly built 22 Brigade Quarter Guard, remodeled Brigade complex, as well as handing over 3 brand new Volkswagen Amork Pick Van, and 10 Bajaj Motocycles.

The event featured some Kwara State Government officials, who accompanied the Executive Governor, the Provost, NA College of Education Ilorin, Major General Umar Babangida, and senior officers from HQ 2 Division and 22 Brigade.
