Lagos Court Sentences Cell Phone Thief to Carrying Two Buckets of Water up a Staircase
A Lagos Chief Magistrate Court in Ebute Meta on Monday sentenced a cell phone thief, Chikwandu Alo, 28, to carrying water up and down a staircase 100 times for stealing a mobile phone valued at N6,000.
According to the Punch, Chief Magistrate B.O. Ope-Agbe read out the sentence to Alo after he admitted to committing the offence.
“I order that the convict should fill up two buckets with water and carry them up and down a stair case a 100 times,’’ she said.
The prosecutor, Police Sgt. Jimah Iseghede, had told the court that Alo stole the said cell phone from a van.
“The complainant saw the cell phone thief carrying out the act, and raised an alarm and the accused was then apprehended,’’ he said
The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
