
Late Colonel Bello Umaru Committed To Mother Earth In Maiduguri
The remains of the Acting Commander 7 Division Military Intelligence Brigade (MIB) late Colonel Bello Umaru have been laid to rest today, 3 September, 2025 at the Maimalari Cantonment Military Cemetery in accordance to Islamic rite with full military honour. The late senior officer passed on in wake of 2 September, 2025 in Maimalari Cantonment.
In a solemnly remarks during the burial, the Theatre Commander (TC) OPHK, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar described the late senior officer as a patriotic and gallant soldier who fought and died in honour.
In his words, “Today, we are gathered with heavy hearts to bid farewell to a distinguished colleague, a senior officer whose life’s work was defined by unwavering dedication, unshakeable courage, and unrelenting commitment to serving our nation’’.
According to Major General Abubakar, late Colonel Bello Umaru displayed remarkable attributes, especially his interpersonal skills, and unique ability to connect with people from diverse background fostering relationships built on mutual respect and trust.
The TC reiterated that the deceased senior officer was a gentleman, a man with integrity and honour who held himself to the highest ethical standard. More so, Late Colonel Umaru was an embodiment of the best values of the military profession hinged on discipline, respect, duty and service.
Reading the deceased funeral oration, the Chief of Staff 7 Division Nigerian Army Brigadier General MD Abdulsalam said late Colonel Bello Umaru a member of 49 Regular Combatant Course from the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy, was granted presidential commission to the rank of Second Lieutenant on 21 September, 2002 and posted to the Corps of Intelligent.
In the course of his career, Late Colonel Ballo Umaru attended several military courses commensurate with his ranks, and held several appointments at various levels within his corps and theatres of operations where he participated actively in line with his responsibility as an intelligent officer.
Until his demise on 2 September, 2025, Late Colonel Bello was the Acting Commander 7 Division Military Intelligence Brigade in OPHK.
Speaking also at the solemn occasion, the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umaru Zulum mni, FNSE, represented by the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Bukar Tijjani who led other Borno state government officials commiserated with the family of Late Colonel Bello Umaru, the Nigerian Army and the nation over this tragic loss of the senior officer.
He further the described the deceased as an intelligent officer whose contribution in several occasions across the theatre was instrumental to remarkable successes recorded against the insurgents through his proactive intelligence and interagency collaboration.
The event was witnessed by the Deputy Theatre Commander OPHK Air Vice Marshall Essien Effanga, Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division Nigerian Army Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, Acting Commander sector 2 OPHK Brigadier General Biyedi Martins, component and units commanders, families of the deceased among others. Highlights of the event were presentation of the National Flag to the next of kins, prayers and group photograph.
