The Libyan National Army on Sunday announced the arrest of top ISIS commander Mohammed Mailoud Mohammed popularly known as Abu Omar.
Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, the spokesperson for the Libyan Army described the arrest of Omar who was arrested in Ubari, South Libya as a major win for the LNA in its war against terrorism.
Abu Omar’s operations were focused in Libya and the Sahel regions including Nigeria through the Islamic State in West Africa, a splinter of Boko Haram.
He was also known to have a strong relationship with Abu Moaz al-Iraqi, the ISIS leader killed by LNA forces in the City of Sebha in September 2020.
