
Major General John Olusegun Adeyemo Assumes Command As 50th Commander Corps Of Artillery
The Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery (NACA) on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, witnessed a historic change of leadership as Major General John Olusegun Adeyemo formally assumed duty as the 50th Commander, Corps of Artillery (CCA). The ceremony took place at the Corps Headquarters, Kontagora, Niger State.
The event equally marked the official handover from the outgoing Commander, Major General Zakari Logun Abubakar, who is disengaging from active service after a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army.
In his valedictory address, Major General ZL Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for a successful and fulfilling military career. He also appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, for the opportunity to serve as CCA.
He commended the officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery for their support and dedication during his tenure, noting that their cooperation was instrumental to his achievements. He urged them to also be committed and loyal to his successor, emphasizing that collective effort remains vital to sustaining the Corps’ successes.
In his maiden address, Major General John Olusegun Adeyemo expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment. He also acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, pledging to consolidate on the gains recorded and further advance the professional standing of the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery in the contemporary security spectrum. He urged officers and soldiers to remain steadfast and professional in the discharge of their duties. The ceremony featured the signing of the handing and taking over notes, decoration of the new Commander with insignia, symbolic presentation of the command flag, and tree planting by both the outgoing and incoming Commanders. Other highlights included the lowering and hoisting of command flags, inspection of the Quarter Guard, visits to key facilities within the Cantonment, inspection of ongoing projects, and a group photograph.
