Major General Soyele Continues Operational Assessment Visits Across Operation Fansan Yamma Theatre, As Troops Intensify Offensive Operations Against Terrorists and Armed Bandits

The Theatre Commander Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General Oluyinka Soyele, has reassured troops in the Theatre that their welfare remains a top priority. This assurance was conveyed during his operational assessment visits to troop locations in Kaduna and Niger States from 9 to 11 July 2025.

Major General Soyele emphasized the importance of vigilance, professionalism, and doggedness in the fight against terrorism and banditry. He addressed the joint troops, stating that issues of morale, logistics, and operational effectiveness would continue to be prioritized. He implored the troops to remain disciplined, committed to duty, and resolute in achieving the OPFY mandate.

These visits are part of a broader strategy aimed at bolstering combat readiness, enhancing operational efficiency, fostering inter-agency coordination, and reaffirming the collective resolve to combat terrorism, insurgency, and criminal activities in the North-West Zone and parts of the North-Central region.

The tour began at Headquarters 1 Division, Kaduna, where Major General Soyele was received by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Commander of Sector 1 OPFY, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, who provided an update on ongoing operations within the Sector. Thereafter, the Theatre Commander visited the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Birnin Gwari to assess ongoing operations.

The Theatre Commander also visited the 18 Brigade Tactical Headquarters in Tegina, where the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari, briefed him on recent operational activities. In his response, Major General Soyele extended condolences to the Brigade over recent casualties suffered during a fierce encounter with terrorists. Praising the troops’ bravery, he emphasized the collective resolve to honour the sacrifices of the fallen heroes by intensifying military operations against all forms of insecurity.

He further proceeded to the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) in Kontagora, where he held strategic engagements with the Commander NATRAC, Major General John Sokoya. Discussions centred on operational excellence and acts of gallantry by troops trained at the Centre. The final stop was at the newly created Sector 3 OPFY Tactical Headquarters at Wawa Cantonment in Kainji from 10 to 11 July 2025, where Major General Soyele received updates on efforts to fully operationalize the Sector to counter emerging threats from the Kainji Lake National Park and adjoining areas.

Throughout the visits, the Theatre Commander reiterated the need for resolute leadership, discipline, and commitment to duty by the troops. This, he stressed, is essential to consolidate the gains made in the ongoing operations against terrorism and banditry across the North-West and parts of the North-Central region.
