Maradona Finally Accepts Son He Denied for Nearly Thirty Years
Diego Maradona, has met and finally acknowledged his son, Diego junior, for the first time. This 29-year-old son is the product of a brief affair he had with Cristina Sinagra in late 1985.
Maradona was named as the boy’s father years ago, by an Italian court, after the legendary striker refused to take a DNA test.
The emotional reunion occurred at a dinner organised by Maradona’s girlfriend Rocio Oliva. This is believed to be the first the two will meet after a brief meeting at a golf tournament in 2003.
Reports say Maradona’s daughter Jana, 20, was also at this dinner. The young lady who met her father two years ago is no stranger to denial. She also suffered the same fate as her step-brother for years despite her mum Valeria Sabalain’s legal battles to force Maradona to recognise her as his daughter after their extra-marital affair.
The reunion was quite emotional as both men hugged with tears in their eyes in front of Maradona’s Nordelta home in Buenos Aires province.
The proud father, kissed his son on the cheek in front of waiting journalists and said,
‘I’m very happy because I’ve been reunited with my son. I’ve been reunited with him as I was reunited with Jana.
‘I love him a lot and he’s very like me.’
Diego Junior had said before the meeting with his dad, ‘We’ve spoken on the phone and exchanged WhatsApp messages and now we’re in contact I’m hoping we can meet soon.
‘I’m keeping to myself what the messages say because they’re personal things that will stay in my heart.”
He added “Hugging my dad would be the most beautiful feeling in the world. My mum told she got to know a very special person who loved her a lot and looked after her.
“My dream one day is to sit down with my siblings at the same table and be able to eat as a family.“
This dream has finally come true, and we are happy for them both!
