Matawalle, U.S. Embassy Delegation Deepen Military Cooperation Talks
The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, MON, yesterday received a delegation from the United States Embassy, led by Colonel Tom Brooks, U.S. Defence Attaché to Nigeria, at his office in the Ministry of Defence, Ship House, Abuja.
The meeting focused on strengthening the existing military-to-military cooperation between the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the United States Armed Forces, with discussions centred on shared security interests and strategic defence collaboration.
Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Ambassador Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, alongside Directors and senior military officers.
The Nigeria–U.S. security relationship is a longstanding and strategic partnership that has over the years focused on counterterrorism, military training, intelligence sharing, and defence capacity building.
It is important to note that the United States currently supports Nigeria through initiatives such as the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), security assistance programs, and joint exercises aimed at combating terrorism, piracy, and transnational crime.
