Military Impostor, 253 Other Traffic Offenders Arrested In Abuja
The Federal Road Safety Corps in the Federal Capital Territory has arrested 254 traffic offenders, including an individual impersonating a military officer, during a recent crackdown under “Operation Restore Sanity IV.”
The operation, which took place between September 8 and 12, 2025, led to 245 convictions through a series of Mobile Court sittings in Nyanya and Karu.
The enforcement drive was carried out in partnership with the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards, targeting increasing cases of traffic violations along the Abuja–Nyanya corridor — an area notorious for overloading, route violations, and reckless driving.
According to the statement signed by the corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Sunday, “In all, 254 offenders were arraigned for committing a total of 563 traffic-related offences.
“Out of these, 245 were convicted, while nine were discharged after due consideration by the court.”
The offences ranged from seatbelt violations (129 cases), driving licence violations (122), and overloading (111), to route violations (63).
Other offences included dangerous driving, traffic light violations, number plate infractions, wrongful overtaking, phone use while driving, caution sign violations, and impersonation.
Among those convicted were seven repeat offenders — Shaab Murtala, Abel Sunday, Sunday Salasi, Benjamin Augustine, Ekem Charles, Hussaini Kabir, and Samsudeen Abdullahi — who were found guilty of multiple infractions, the statement added.
Sentences for these individuals included community service ranging from three hours to five days.
The statement further stated, “Hussaini Kabir, who not only committed traffic offences but also impersonated the military, was handed a five-day community service sentence to be served at the Mambilla Barracks.”
The Mobile Court proceedings were presided over by His Worship, Maryam Muazu Alhaji, and His Worship, Huzaifa Maccido, with CRC Cindy Talabi, the FCT Sector Legal Officer, serving as the prosecuting counsel.
Speaking after the conclusion of the exercise, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed satisfaction with the FCT command’s efforts in maintaining road discipline.
“The mobile court sittings were held at his instance, as part of a deliberate national strategy to curb traffic indiscipline.
“Similar exercises will be replicated across all states of the federation to strengthen enforcement, deter habitual violators, and promote safer roads nationwide,” the statement read.
He urged motorists to desist from dangerous driving, route violations, overloading, and all forms of recklessness.
Between January and June this year, the FRSC operatives arrested 290,887 traffic offenders for committing 319,798 offences.
The offences ranged from seatbelt, overloading, number plate, tyres, light sign, speed limit, fire extinguisher, driving licence, windscreen, and vehicle licence violations.
