Minister For Budget and Economic Planning Lauds World Bank’s Support, Seeks Stronger Cooperation
The Honorable Minister for Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu CON, participated in a meeting with the esteemed World Bank Group (WBG) team during a two-day visit to Nigeria led by Ms. Anna Bjerde, the World Bank Managing Director of Operations, at the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024.
Ms. Bjerde’s visit was aimed at furthering the World Bank’s engagement in critical areas of the country’s development agenda and assessing the progress of over 30 ongoing projects funded by the World Bank.
During a press briefing following the meeting, Sen. Bagudu emphasized the significant strides made in collaboration with the World Bank to drive impactful reforms for Nigeria’s economic development.
Under the leadership of the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Chief Wale Edun, Nigeria has engaged in regular meetings with the World Bank team to enhance partnership and explore the full potential of the portfolio.
Sen. Bagudu highlighted the proactive measures led by the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance to leverage the opportunities presented by the International Development Association (IDA) facilities, which are instrumental in assisting Nigeria as the country transitions through ongoing reforms.
The collaboration between Nigeria and the World Bank, the Honourable Minister noted, is a testament to the power of international cooperation in fostering sustainable economic progress. He expressed gratitude to the World Bank team for their unwavering support and accentuated the importance of continued collaboration, confident that the efforts will not only benefit Nigeria but also serve as a beacon of support for other countries in the region and across the developing world.
