Minister Of Defence Reiterates President’s Commitment To Defeating Insurgency In Northeast

The Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, accompanied by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Muhammed Matawale, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and Principal Staff Officers from Defence and services headquarters, visited Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (JTF NE OPHK ) in Maiduguri on 25 April 2025.

Addressing troops at Maimalari Cantonment, the Minister reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to providing the military with the necessary equipment and welfare to bring an end to the insurgency. He acknowledged the challenging operating conditions faced by troops, assuring them that the President was dedicated to supporting their efforts.

“We know the conditions you are operating in, the temperature, the terrain, the climate.

“The President is committed to providing the necessary tools and welfare to end the war.” Minister Abubakar said.

The Minister further expressed appreciation for the troops’ efforts and urged them to remain committed to their mission of making Nigeria proud.

General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, also commended troops for their sacrifices, commitment, and dedication in the face of adversity. He encouraged officers and men to proactively engage terrorists, ensure peace in the North East region.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander, Major General Waidi Shaibu, welcomed the delegation and presented a brief on the operational activities of JTF NE OPHK.

The visit concluded with a group photograph, attended by senior Defence officials, including the Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force, incoming Theatre Commander, General Officer Commanding 7 Division, and other formation commanders.
