Minister Of Defence Unveils Strategic Career Transition Initiative, Army Leadership Deepens Long-Term Welfare Commitment To Personnel

The Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD), General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd) OFR, on Monday 23 March 2026 flagged off the Senior Executive Career Transition Programme (SECTP), an initiative of the Nigerian Army executed by the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre (NAHFC), designed to prepare senior officers of the Nigerian Army for a seamless transition to civilian life after years of active military service.

The opening ceremony, held at Zuma Rock Resort, Suleja, was attended by senior military leadership, including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, representative of the Chief of Defence Staff, other Service Chiefs, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy as well as Principal Staff Officers from Defence and Services Headquarters.

The two weeks intensive programme is carefully structured to provide participants with critical insights into retirement planning, financial management, career reinvention, entrepreneurship opportunities and the psychological dynamics associated with transitioning from military to civilian life. It also features corporate immersion engagements, venture support initiatives and mentorship sessions with accomplished retired senior officers.

In his remarks, the Honourable Minister described the initiative as a strategic and proactive approach to human capital development, emphasising that the responsibility of military leadership must extend beyond active service to ensuring personnel are adequately prepared for life after retirement.
