Minister Of Marine and Blue Economy and International Maritime Organisation Secretary-General Visit Nigerian Navy Ship Lana

On Friday, 3 October 2025, the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Engr Adegboyega Oyetola, alongside the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Mr Arsenio Dominguez, paid an official visit to the Western Naval Command and Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) LANA at the Navy Base, Apapa, Lagos. The visit was part of ongoing engagements to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime safety, security, and hydrographic capacity in line with international best practices.

The delegation included the Managing Director of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dayo Mobereola, the Chief of Operations, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Patrick Chibueze Nwatu, the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Mike Gregory Oamen, the Fleet Commander Western Fleet, Rear Admiral I Mohammed-Katsina, and the Director of Hydrography, Rear Admiral Olugbenga Bidemi Oladipo, among other senior NIMASA directors. They were received by the Commanding Officer, NNS LANA, Captain Oladipo Suleiman Giwa, who conducted them round the ship’s hydrographic and oceanographic facilities. The visitors were briefed on the vessel’s role in charting Nigeria’s waters, promoting safe navigation, and supporting the nation’s blue economy aspirations.

In his remarks, the Honourable Minister highlighted the strategic importance of NNS LANA to the Federal Government’s blue economy agenda, while the IMO Secretary-General commended the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to maritime safety and hydrography. He also pledged the continued support of the IMO in enhancing Nigeria’s maritime capabilities. The visit further demonstrated the synergy between the Nigerian Navy, NIMASA, and international stakeholders in advancing Nigeria’s maritime interests and safeguarding its territorial waters.
