Miss India, Manushi Chhillar Crowned Miss World 2017
India’s Manushi Chhillar has won the 2017 Miss World beauty pageant, beating around 108 other contestants who attended the pageant held in China.
According to NDTV, the 20-year-old beauty queen who hopes to become a cardiac surgeon made the top five list which also includes representatives from Kenya, Mexico and England at the grand finale. While England’s Stephanie Hill made the first runner up, Mexico’s Andrea Meza, followed behind as second runner up.
Chhillar brought the crown back to her country 17 years after actress, Priyanka Chopra won the coveted crown.
During the Question and Answer session, when Chhillar was asked which profession she feels deserved the highest salary, the 20-year-old took a more dynamic route, saying earning the highest salary isn’t as important as earning the highest respect.
“I think a mother is of highest respect,” she said. “I don’t think its just about cash but love and respect she gives to someone. She is the biggest inspiration in my life. Mother should get highest respect,” she added.
Meanwhile, Miss Nigeria, Ugochi Ihezue, won the Fast Track Model Challenge at the pageant, automatically qualifying her for the top 40 list. Today she advanced to the top 15.
Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle who won the crown last year has now passed it on to India’s Chhillar.
