NAFARL Advances Food Security Agenda, Links Agriculture To National Security – Major General Nicodemus
The Executive Director of Nigerian Army Farms and Ranches Limited (NAFARL), Major General Sinyinah Nicodemus, has reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to bolstering Nigeria’s food security through strategic agricultural initiatives that align with the Federal Government’s food policy.
Major General Nicodemus communicated this on Monday, 9 February 2026, during a one-day study visit by participants of the Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course 8/2025 from the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC). This visit was part of the Centre’s nationwide study tour for the 2025/2026 academic session.
During the engagement, the NAFARL Executive Director elucidated that the study visit, themed “ *Governance and Economic Policies in a Secured Environment: Nigeria’s Experience,”* emphasised the critical link between security and economic development. He pointed out that insecurity deters investment, disrupts economic activities, and redirects scarce resources from developmental efforts, emphasising that sustainable growth can only prosper in a secure environment.
Major General Nicodemus further emphasised NAFARL’s role in decreasing Nigeria’s reliance on food imports through large-scale farming and ranching initiatives, asserting that agriculture is a strategic instrument not only for economic growth but also for enhancing national stability.
Earlier, the Team Leader and Consultant for the study tour, Professor Okey Ikechukwu, remarked that the Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course is one of the flagship programs of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, designed for senior leaders occupying strategic positions. He encouraged participants to fully leverage the opportunity of the visit by deriving practical lessons applicable to real-life policy and leadership challenges.
Participants were conducted on a guided tour of NAFARL facilities, where they received comprehensive briefings on the organization’s operations, achievements, and challenges across its various departments.
The visit climaxed with the exchange of souvenirs and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
