NAFC, Critical To The Performance and Effectiveness Of The Nigerian Army – Maj. Gen Fayemiwo
The Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), Major General Adetokunbo Fayemiwo, has affirmed that the Nigerian Army Finance Corps (NAFC) is critical to the performance and effectiveness of the Nigerian Army (NA), both in peacetime and wartime. He made the affirmation on 25 September 2025, while declaring open the Headquarters, 6 Division Finance and Accounts Training Week year 2025, at Lieutenant General F Yahaya Badminton Court, Port Harcourt Barracks.
Major General Fayemiwo, who was represented by the Commandant, NA School of Finance and Accounts (NASFA), Major General Monday Ihanuwaze, said that the training week with the theme: “Digital Finance Innovation: Building Competent 6 Division Finance Personnel for Smart Financial Management of Nigerian Army Financial Resources” was designed to equip 6 Division Finance personnel with the requisite skills to provide effective services to formations and units under the Division. He informed that the training was anchored on the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy.
Major General Adetokunbo further maintained that the training was also an avenue to address officers and soldiers at the Division level, adding that it provides a veritable means for updating personnel on contemporary government policies, financial best practices, and their implementation in accounting for NA funds.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, NA, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, expressed his appreciation for the third edition of the training week in the Division. He further said the event has, since inception, provided a platform for professional enrichment, knowledge sharing, and intellectual cross-fertilization amongst finance officers and administrators of the NA. This, he said, has added value to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Division’s operations.
Speaking further, the GOC acknowledged the laudable contributions of the Chief of Accounts and Budget to the NAFC and the NA, particularly for raising the standard of professionalism and commitment in building a vibrant financial system in the NA.
Major General Emekah noted that the year 2025 has presented daunting challenges, yet, through resilience, professionalism, and commitment, 6 Division has continued to deliver on its mandate, particularly through efforts to curb oil theft and safeguard critical oil and gas infrastructure. These deliberate and coordinated efforts have directly contributed to the steady rise in crude oil production, which has impressively increased from 1.2 million barrels per day to 1.85 million barrels per day in July 2025, being the highest figure recorded in over a decade. He commended the officers and men of the 6 Division Finance for remaining steadfast, diligent, and professional in discharging their duties. He also maintained that their proactiveness is an integral part of the successes recorded by this Division.
While presenting the highlights of the Training Week, the Acting Commander, 6 Division Finance and Accounts, Lieutenant Colonel Olakunle Dada, underscored the importance of the training in building the requisite capacity in personnel. He maintained that this would enable them to perform optimally in the field.
The training week featured various presentations on topical issues on financial management. There were questions and answer sessions, where grey areas were clarified.
