Why We Named Our Twins Rumi and Sir Carter – JAY – Z
More than two months after their twins were born and named, Jay-Z has finally explained the rationale behind their interesting names– Rumi and Sir.Recall that in July, Beyoncé shared the first photo of the twin boy and girl and revealed their names; Sir and Rumi. The photo stirred major reactions, just like it was during Blue Ivy’s time, with many people making false assumptions about why the power couple chose those names.
Now, the 4:44 rapper has addressed it all.
In a new interview with Elliot Wilson and Brian Miller during their podcast Rap Radar, the rap legend said, “Rumi is our favorite poet, so it was for our daughter. Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”
“I booked the tour for October so I could have at least four months to just really bond and see their fingers and s–t like that,” he said.
He continued, “They’ll be with me [on tour] anyway but I’m just saying, like, [I needed] a space where I’m not doing anything. I’m just focused on them. I’m not thinking about a show at night or anything like that. That’s why the tour is so far away from the release of the album.”
