NAOWA 3 Division Celebrates 2025 International Day Of The Girls Child

The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) 3 Division Chapter, in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and the Federal Ministry of Health, celebrated the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child with a series of lectures, games, and interactive sessions.

In her opening remarks, the Chairperson of NAOWA 3 Division, Dr. (Mrs.) Temitope Oyinlola, reiterated that girls are at the forefront of change in climate action, technology, and advocacy.

“We are gathered here today to celebrate their strength, courage, and vision,” she stated. “We also acknowledge the unique challenges girls face—from gender disparities in education to pressures affecting mental health—and we recommit to creating pathways for their growth, safety, and empowerment.”

Dr. Oyinlola highlighted that this year’s theme, *“The girl I am, the change I lead: girls on the frontlines of crisis,”* underscores the incredible leadership and resilience of girls facing challenges globally.

“This theme reminds us of our collective responsibility to support and amplify their voices,” she said. “You are leaders, innovators, and changemakers. Your voices matter. Your dreams are valid. We stand with you in pursuit of a world where every girl can fulfil her potential.”

The day’s programme featured engaging discussions and activities, with a special focus on youth mental health, recognizing its foundational role in helping girls thrive academically, socially, and personally.

In her concluding address, the Chairperson expressed her gratitude to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, whose leadership and unwavering support, she noted, underscore the military formation’s commitment to nurturing excellence and empowerment within the barracks community.

She also extended her appreciation to the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI). “Their commitment to health innovation and equity aligns powerfully with our focus on empowering girls and youth here at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment,” she stated.

Dr. Oyinlola further thanked the representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health and other facilitators whose contributions enriched the celebration.

Highlights of the event included lectures on Purpose and Academic Excellence and Peer Pressure and Mental Health. Others include interactive panelist sessions, a variety of fun games, and group photographs.

The event successfully fostered a spirit of empowerment and solidarity, reinforcing the community’s commitment to supporting its young women.
