NAOWA 6 Division Chapter Empowers Women With Digital Skills In Port Harcourt Barracks, As GOC Commends Initiative

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has commended the Chairperson, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), 6 Division Chapter, Mrs Manfon Ejim-Emekah, for her visionary leadership and commitment to empowering women in Port Harcourt Barracks. The GOC, represented by the Commander, 56 Signal Brigade, Brigadier General Ibrahim Bindul, gave the commendation at the graduation ceremony of 18 women who successfully completed a four-week computer training programme at the NAOWA Vocational Centre, Port Harcourt Barracks.

Major General Emekah noted that the world is increasingly driven by digital technology and urged the graduates to make effective use of the knowledge acquired to improve their productivity and well-being. He reaffirmed that one of the pillars of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede’s Command Philosophy, is “Welfare Administration for Officers and Soldiers,” adding that 6 Division remains committed to human capital development in line with the COAS Command Philosophy.

Speaking at the event, Brigadier General Bindul praised the GOC and the NAOWA Chairperson for ensuring that participants were not only trained but also empowered with a laptop computer each upon completion, describing the gesture as a practical example of sustainable empowerment.

Earlier, the Chairperson, NAOWA, Mrs Manfon Ejim-Emekah, appreciated the GOC for his continuous support. She also profoundly thanked the President, NAOWA, Mrs Mernan Femi Oluyede for providing the strategic guidance and support that brought the program to fruition. Mrs Emekah described the graduation as the beginning of a new chapter for the participants and said the training was designed to equip NAOWA women with digital skills for innovation and resilience. She commended the graduates for their dedication and willingness to embrace change.

It was an intensive training that equipped the women with the requisite digital skills to effectively navigate the demands of the contemporary marketplace. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of laptops to the graduates and a group photograph session.
