National Institute of International Affairs To Confer Army Chief, Lt Gen Lagbaja Honorary Fellow of the Institute
The Director General National Institute of International Affairs, NIIA’s Director-General, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, has said the NIIA become more formidable than it ever was and the formidability of the Institute has conferred the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja with the prestigious award of Honorary Fellow of the Institute, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs alongside with principal Senior officers of the Nigerian Army as Members of the Institute.
Prof. Eghosa Osaghae disclosed this when he led his management team on a courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja at Army Headquarters on Thursday, 10th August 2023 in Abuja.
He also seek a partnership and a very strong presence of the Nigerian Army under the stewardwardship of the current Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja, a centre that houses the academic at the Institute in Lagos.
Prof. Eghosa Osaghae said, he believe the academy would provide platform for senior courses for Nigerian Army senior officers. And to have fellows of the academic to be residents in the institute for short period of time who would be part of the research for the institute.
Prof. Osaghae further emphasized the importance of strengthening the synergys with the Nigerian Army to build a platform that will distinguished the services of the institute and the military from different templates.
He pledged the commitment of the Institute to work with the Nigerian Army and support the vision statement, Philosophy of Command of the 23rd Chief of Army Staff, which is to Transform the Nigerian Army into a Well-trained, Equipped, and Highly Effective Force’.
He said the core objective of the Institute as a ‘Think-Tank’ was to guide the nation on her international relations and foreign policy choices and direction.
Responding, the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja thanked the Director General of NIIA’S and his entourage for the visited also pledged the readiness and willingness of the Nigerian Army to work with the NIIA.
