
National President Of The Defence and Police Officers Wives Association Pays Courtesy Call On The Chief Of The Naval Staff
On Monday, 22 December 2025, the National President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs Mernan Femi Oluyede, paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abass (Admiralty Medal), at the Naval Headquarters, Abuja. She was accompanied by the Presidents of the Officers’ Wives Associations of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force and Police, as well as coordinators and other executive members of the association.
During the visit, Mrs Oluyede highlighted the important roles played by officers’ wives’ associations in stabilising families when their husbands and fathers are engaged in critical national assignments and deployments for extended periods away from home. She also expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Navy leadership for its sustained support of DEPOWA’s projects, noting that such support has significantly enhanced the successful execution of the association’s programmes. She further solicited increased support and collaboration to enable DEPOWA to achieve greater impact in its family welfare and humanitarian initiatives.
In his response, the CNS commended the leadership and members of DEPOWA for their steadfastness in the face of the challenging situations confronting many military families, while acknowledging the critical role played by military wives on the home front in support of officers deployed to various conflict theatres. He emphasised the importance of inclusivity among the spouses of officers and ratings, urging that no one should be left behind. In conclusion, the CNS reaffirmed his commitment to continue supporting the association’s programmes. The meeting was attended by Principal Staff Officers and Directors at the Naval Headquarters.
