NCPWD and NEDC Flag Off Distribution of Assistive Devices to Beneficiaries in Borno State
In a landmark event aimed at empowering persons with disabilities, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), in partnership with the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), has launched the distribution of a wide range of assistive devices. The flag-off ceremony, which took place at the NEDC headquarters in Maiduguri, Borno State, marks a significant step towards enhancing the mobility and independence of individuals with disabilities in the region.
The event, held on Wednesday, July 25, 2024, saw the participation of beneficiaries from Borno State. These beneficiaries received brand new assistive devices, including prosthetic limbs and crutches, specifically designed to meet their diverse needs.
The occasion was graced by the Managing Director/CEO of NEDC, Muhammed Ali, and the dynamic Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Dr. James David Lalu, PhD, npom, whose unwavering commitment to improving the lives of persons with disabilities has been widely recognized.
In his address, Dr. Lalu emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This distribution is not just about providing assistive devices; it is about restoring dignity, enhancing independence, and ensuring that persons with disabilities can lead productive and fulfilling lives. The NCPWD is dedicated to creating an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can contribute meaningfully to our nation’s development.”
