NDLEA Arrest Tailor and Footballer for Possession of Hard Drugs
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a woman identified as Godfrey Rita for allegedly trafficking cocaine while returning from Spain, PUNCH reports.
The 46-year-old suspect was said to have trafficked 1.5 kilogrammes of the substance while in transit in Dubai, on her way from Spain, where she worked as a fashion designer. The drug, which had been packaged in a polythene bag, was intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos during the screening of passengers on the plane.
In another case, a 26-year-old man identified as Adebayo Seriki, was apprehended at the Murtala Mohammed airport with 2.1 kg of heroin on-board an Ethiopian airline from Mozambique. Seriki told the officers that he left Nigeria as a footballer in search of a good club. After a fruitless search for a football club in Mozambique, he stated that he became frustrated and broke; he decided he needed to return home. That was how he agreed to smuggle drugs.
The NDLEA Commander at the MMIA, Mr. Ahmadu Garba revealed that 63 suspected drug traffickers were arrested at the MMIA between January and June, 2016, adding that 46 of the suspects were males. The NDLEA Chairman, Col. Muhammad Abdallah (retd.) also stated that the agency would continue to adopt the principle of shared responsibility and international collaboration in dismantling drug cartels.
