
Never Compromise Discipline, It Is The Cornerstone Of Leadership – Major General Alkali Tells Newly Promoted Officers
The Commandant, Army War College Nigeria (AWCN), Major General UM Alkali, has charged the newly promoted officers of the College to uphold discipline and exercise leadership at all times, noting that discipline remains the soul of leadership. He made this remark on 29 September 2025 during the decoration of newly promoted officers at the TYB Hall, Army War College Nigeria, Asokoro Abuja.
At the ceremony, two officers of the College were decorated following their recent promotions approved by the Army Headquarters, Department of Military Secretary. They are Captain Kolawole Tunde Ojogiwa, elevated to the rank of Major, and Lieutenant Nura Shehu, promoted to the rank of Captain.
While congratulating the newly decorated officers, the Commandant urged them to see their promotion as a call to higher responsibility and greater service. In his words, *“Exercise leadership in every complex dynamic situation, never compromise discipline, and remain focused. Discipline is the soul of leadership, and without it, no officer can truly command respect or succeed in service.”*
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Director of Administration and Logistics, Brigadier General JN Garba, commended the celebrants for their commitment and perseverance, noting that their promotions were well-deserved. He further described the ceremony as a moment of pride for the College and encouraged the officers to continue to be good ambassadors of AWCN.
The event also featured words of advice from senior officers and members of faculty, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Major KT Ojogiwa. It was rounded off with a group photograph to commemorate the occasion. The ceremony was attended by members of the College community, family members, and invited guests who joined in celebrating the officers’ career milestone.
