Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has signed a new contract extension with English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers until 2019.

Ikeme’s was due to be out of a contract at the end of the current season but has now committed to staying at the Molineux for two and a half more years, with the option of an additional year, Complete Sports writes.

The 30-year-old England-born Nigeria international has been at Wolves since he was 15 despite going out on loan on several occasions, and says he feels excited about the new deal.

“I’m delighted. I’ve been here since I was 15 years of age – it’s something I’m proud of,” he said.

“I’ve got good relationships with everyone here including the fans. I want to continue it and have more success here.

Ikeme has come big for the Eagles

“For me personally I feel like I’ve always got a challenge here. And under the new gaffer I feel like the club is moving in the right direction.

“It’s given everyone impetus and belief that we can do well. I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”

Wolves head coach, Paul Lambert, was full of praise for the Eagles no 1 goalie.

“I think it is important to get players like Carl Ikeme signed up to a new deal,” he told wolves.co.uk.

“As it was with Dave Edwards, he is an experienced member of the team. He knows exactly what the club is about and if you get a core of lads like that then they can look after the dressing room as well.

“Carl has been terrific since I arrived and I think this is a big signing for the club.” he added.

Ikeme made his international debut against Tanzania in 2015, and has been instrumental in the revival of the national team.
