Nigerian Air Force 2017 Special Operations Seminar Ends With Communique To Enhance Special Operations
The maiden edition of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Special Operations Seminar, which held in Bauchi from 14-15 December 2017, has ended with a comprehensive communique aimed at enhancing NAF Special Operations. After series of presentations and stimulating interactive sessions, with inputs from serving and retired military officers as well as selected civilians, the participants came up with practical suggestions to further improve NAF Special Operations capabilities. This is aimed at enabling the NAF to consolidate on current efforts towards meeting Nigeria’s contemporary security challenges, which are largely asymmetric in nature. At the end of the 2-day Seminar, participants unanimously adopted the resolutions and produced a communique for consideration and implementation by NAF Headquarters.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, commended the participants for baring their minds on salient issues and for their valuable contributions toward injecting additional efficiency into the conduct of NAF Special Operations. The CAS disclosed that the whole essence of the Seminar was to avail participants the opportunity to examine the current status of NAF Special Operations and suggest the way forward. Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar maintained that the NAF would not relent in its efforts at always seeking valuable contributions from strategic stakeholders with a view to effectively fulfilling its statutory responsibilities. The CAS recalled that the current security environment in Nigeria informed the establishment of the NAF Special Operations Command (SOC). He then added that the continuous prevalence of irregular threats within the country required that every necessary measure must be taken to strengthen the evolving NAF Special Operations Forces.
The closing ceremony also witnessed the presentation of a paper on “Enhancing the capabilities of NAF Special Forces for Ground Combat Missions”, delivered by Brigadier General Clement Apere of the Nigerian Army. The Seminar was later capped off with a Regimental Dinner Night, the first of its kind since the establishment of the SOC about two years ago. The Regimental Dinner Night is an age-old tradition of the Military worldwide and the conduct of the Dinner is in promoting regimentation in the NAF, being one of the key drivers of the CAS Vision. The CAS, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, was the Special Guest of Honour at the Dinner Night. Participants at the Seminar have since been airlifted back to their various bases with NAF aircraft.
