Nigerian Air Force Commissions New Worship Centres At Asokoro Base

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commissioned new worship centres at the NAF Base in Asokoro, Abuja. The newly built and furnished worship centres include a Central Mosque as well as Protestant and Catholic Churches to enable personnel and their families worship in a conducive environment close to their residences.

Speaking while commissioning the new Mosque on 22 March 2019, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Air Secretary Headquarters (HQ) NAF, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Mahmood Ahmed, disclosed that the building of the new worship centre was part of his administration’s initiatives for improving welfare and motivating personnel towards the effective performance of their duties. While enjoining the Muslim faithful to make judicious use of the facility, the CAS said that the NAF leadership would continue to do all within its power to provide conducive home and work environments for personnel and their families, in order to spur them towards better performance and enhanced service delivery.

In similar vein, the CAS, represented by the Chief of Administration HQ NAF, AVM Kingsley Lar, also commissioned the new NAF Protestant and Catholic Churches for the Christian faithful on 24 March 2019. In his address to the congregants during the commissioning ceremony, the CAS advocated for continued prayers for the NAF as well as the peace and progress of the nation, noting that it was the fervent prayers of Nigerians, including those in the military, that had kept the nation together in spite of its numerous challenges. While emphasising that it was impossible to serve God well without adequate facilities, Air Marshal Abubakar implored those that would manage the facilities provided for the Churches to ensure their proper use for the spiritual upliftment of the worshippers.

It may be recalled that the NAF Base in Asokoro was commissioned in March 2017. Since then, the Base has witnessed the provision of additional infrastructure and facilities to enhance the comfort and improve the standard of living of its occupants.
