Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association Marks World Blood Donor Day, Urges More Nigerians To Embrace Voluntary Blood Donation

In a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes of healthcare, the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) on Saturday, 14 June 2025, joined the global community to commemorate World Blood Donor Day with a special sensitisation lecture held at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base, Asokoro, Abuja.

Speaking during the event, the National President of NAFOWA, Architect (Dr) Rukkayyat Abubakar, welcomed participants with a message of gratitude and advocacy, noting that this year’s theme, “20 Years of Giving: Thank You, Blood Donors!” serves as a powerful reminder of the life-saving impact of voluntary blood donation.

“Today, across the globe, people are uniting to honour the quiet heroes among us, those who selflessly donate blood to save lives,” she stated. “It is a day that reminds us of the immeasurable value of compassion, and of our shared duty to preserve life whenever and however we can.”

The event featured guest medical experts and volunteers who delivered enlightening lectures to dispel misconceptions about blood donation and encouraging wider participation. World Blood Donor Day is observed every 14th of June to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.
