Nigerian Air Force Promotes Fitness, Unity and Readiness With 2025 10km Exercise Nationwide

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its dedication to the physical fitness, well-being, and unity of its personnel through the successful conduct of the Year 2025 10km Walk/Jog Exercise across all NAF units nationwide on 18 October 2025. The event brought together NAF personnel, their families, and participants from sister organisations in a display of camaraderie and shared purpose. The Chairman, National Sports Council, Malam Shehu Diko, graced the Abuja edition as Special Guest of Honour, congratulating participants for their spirit of discipline and excellence, which, he noted, mirrors the NAF’s unwavering commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

In his remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, emphasised that the essence of the event went beyond medals, focusing instead on fostering unity, teamwork, and wellness among personnel and their families. Quoting Aristotle, he said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit,” stressing that regular participation in fitness and sports reflects the enduring culture of excellence that defines the NAF. He reaffirmed that physical fitness remains a core component of Service life and a foundation for operational readiness, urging officers and airmen to view it not merely as a promotion requirement but as a personal responsibility for resilience and efficiency.

Air Marshal Abubakar further highlighted ongoing initiatives to strengthen sports development within the Service, including the implementation of resolutions from the maiden Directorate of Sports and Physical Education Workshop and plans to upgrade sporting facilities across all bases. He announced the establishment of a Sports Control Board to coordinate sports programmes and directed commanders to enhance participation in local sporting events to promote civil-military relations. Commending recent achievements, the CAS lauded the NAF Handball Team for securing promotion to the Premier League and the NAF Football Team for emerging champions at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Football Tournament. He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his steadfast support to the NAF and sports development in Nigeria.
