Nigerian Air Force Provides Free Holiday Music Training For Children Of Personnel

In line with his command philosophy of “Welfare-Driven Leadership” and commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of personnel and their families, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, facilitated the successful conduct of free holiday training on musical instruments for children of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel. The Directorate of Music coordinated the programme across various music squadrons from 4 – 30 August 2025, providing intensive four-week sessions for wards and dependants between the ages of 6 – 17. This initiative not only reflects the CAS’s dedication to welfare and human capacity development but also underscores his holistic approach to nurturing resilient families within the Air Force community.

The training exposed participants to skill acquisition in the handling and performance of different musical instruments, with lasting developmental benefits. Research has consistently shown that musical education significantly enhances cognitive abilities, particularly memory and executive functions, while also improving emotional regulation, motor coordination, and social interaction. By engaging young dependants during the holiday period, the programme fostered creativity, discipline, and teamwork—qualities that contribute positively to their personal growth and wellbeing. These outcomes align with the CAS’s broader vision of shaping future-ready citizens who can contribute meaningfully to national development.

Beyond the immediate impact on the children, the initiative has also boosted morale among personnel, reinforcing the assurance that their families remain a priority in NAF’s welfare agenda. By creating a nurturing environment for dependants, the CAS has strengthened the social fabric within the Air Force, thereby enhancing operational effectiveness. In the long term, such welfare-driven initiatives not only safeguard the mental health and wellbeing of personnel but also contribute to national security and development, as a motivated force is better positioned to project airpower for the protection of lives and property.
