Nigerian Air Force Trains Frontline Troops On Life-Saving Combat Medical Skills

In the bid to bolster the combat medical readiness of its frontline units, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine (NAFSMSAM), conducted a specialised Emergency Life Responders Training for personnel of 413 Force Protection Group (FPG), Kaduna. Held on 25 July 2025 at the Air Mobile First Aid Unit (AMFAU), Kaduna, the training aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, to empower operational troops with critical life-saving capabilities in austere and high-risk environments.

The intensive training session featured both theoretical instruction and hands-on application of essential medical interventions in combat scenarios. Key areas of focus included airway management and bleeding control, with participants engaging in simulated emergency procedures such as hemorrhage control using tourniquets and wound packing under pressure. Airway techniques, ranging from head tilt-chin lift and jaw thrust to the insertion of nasopharyngeal airways, were rigorously practiced to build skill, confidence, and muscle memory in life-threatening conditions.

Air Commodore Rilwan Abdullahi, Commandant of 413 FPG, led his personnel, participating in the exercises, reinforcing the importance of medical preparedness in mission success. This initiative demonstrates NAF’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives of its personnel through continuous capacity development, while ensuring that troops remain combat ready and resilient on the frontlines.
