Nigerian Air Force Urges Personnel To Stand Firm Against Cross-Border Smuggling

In an effort to strengthen national security and protect Nigeria’s economic interests, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified its internal campaign against cross-border smuggling with a sensitization lecture for personnel of NAF Base Port Harcourt. Representing the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, the Air Provost Marshal, Air Vice Marshal Jibrin Usman, reaffirmed the Service’s zero tolerance for indiscipline and misconduct, stressing that smuggling undermines the economy, fuels insecurity, and erodes public trust.

The lecture, themed “The Effects of Cross-Border Smuggling and its Impact on National Security and the Image of the NAF,” highlighted the dangers of illicit activities such as oil bunkering, arms trafficking, and contraband trade, which sustain criminal networks and finance terrorism. AVM Usman cautioned that any NAF personnel found complicit would be betraying the uniform and the values it represents, while urging personnel in the Niger Delta region to remain vigilant and uphold professionalism.

The sensitization aligns with one of the CAS’s command philosophy pillars: “Deliberate Training and Mission-Oriented Force Development.” It concluded with a symbolic tree-planting exercise, underscoring NAF’s dual commitment to national security and environmental stewardship.
