Nigerian Army Advances Operational Preparedness Through Simulation Training As COAS Declares The Training Workshop Open

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waheed Shaibu, has reaffirmed Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening operational preparedness through simulation-based training, describing it as a vital tool for enhancing troops’ adaptability and effectiveness in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations. The COAS stated this while declaring open the Land Forces Simulation Centre, Nigeria (LFSCN) Simulation Training Workshop on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, under the theme “Leveraging Joint and Multi-Agency Capabilities to Strengthen Troops’ Adaptability and Resilience during Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations”.

The COAS, who was represented at the event by the Commander Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Kennedy Osemwegie, emphasized that simulation-based training provides a realistic and controlled environment where commanders and troops can test operational concepts, improve decision-making processes, and enhance coordination without the constraints associated with large-scale field exercises. He noted that such training platforms are essential for preparing troops to respond effectively to complex and dynamic operational scenarios.

Lieutenant General Shaibu therefore urged participants to take full advantage of the workshop by actively engaging in discussions, sharing professional experiences, and exploring innovative approaches that would further enhance the Nigerian Army’s operational effectiveness. He added that the insights gained from the training would contribute significantly to improving joint and multi-agency collaboration in addressing contemporary security challenges.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director General, Land Forces Simulation Centre Nigeria, Major General Mohammed Wabili, expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his continuous support towards the growth and development of the Centre. He stated that the workshop was designed to provide participants with the opportunity to leverage simulation tools in operational planning and training, particularly in strengthening troops’ adaptability and resilience in complex operational environments.

Major General Wabili further reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to advancing simulation-driven training as a force multiplier for the Nigerian Army, noting that the initiative aligns with the COAS’ command philosophy of building a highly professional and combat-ready force capable of effectively addressing emerging security threats.

The event was attended by senior officers from Army Headquarters Departments , commanders drawn from various units and formations of the Nigerian Army and representatives of selected paramilitary agencies. During the workshop , participants will receive series of lectures from erudite resources persons which will lead to intensive interactive sessions aimed at strengthening joint and multi-agency cooperation while exploring innovative approaches to the conduct of counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.
