
Nigerian Army Buries Late Colonel As Ayough (rtd) In His Home Town With Full Military Honours
In line with the rich military customs, ethics and tradition, the Nigerian Army (NA) laid to rest one of its esteemed very senior officer late Col Samuel Ayough (Rtd), in a solemn ceremony filled with military pageantry today 29 November 2026, in his home town of Apir in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State. Late Colonel Ayough (Rtd) served with distinction as the Assistant Director 3 Division Education Services. The funeral afforded senior military officers both serving and retired the opportunity to pay their last respect to one of their distinguished and finest retired colleagues.
Speaking at the funeral, the Acting Corps Commander Education (CCEdn), Brigadier General YB Ahmed described late Col Ayoungh as a seasoned senior Education officer with unblemished record. The CCEdn ably represented by the Registrar, Nigerian Army College of Environmental Science and Technology (NACEST) Lt Col Umar Idris Ja’afaru reiterated that the late retired senior officer was resourceful, regimented and hardworking. He added that his integrity was beyond reproach. “He was a man of impeccable character and unwavering dedication,” he remarked. He also highlighted the late senior officer’s ability to leave a mark of excellence in the Nigerian Army Education Corp during his tenure as Assistant Director 3 Division Education Services. He emphasized that late Col Ayoungh (Rtd) patriotism and moral standards were exemplary, earning him the respect and admiration from his subordinates.
The CCEdn further mentioned that the late senior officer’s demise will be deeply felt not only by his immediate family but the entire Nigerian Army Education Corp. He prayed to the Almighty God to grant him eternal rest and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The funeral ceremony witnessed an impressive turnout of very senior military officers serving and retired, including the former Commander Corp of Education, Maj Gen BB Ayinde (Rtd), Brig Gen JT Aun, Comdt Command Secondary School, Makurdi, Lt Col SI Mohammed, Command Day Secondary School, Makurdi, Lt Col AJ Dokubo and other serving and retired senior officers of the Nigerian military. Together, they all gathered to honour and paid their last respect to a man whose life was defined by service, commitment and an unwavering sense of duty to humanity and his country.
