Nigerian Army Enhances Healthcare Access For Kanoma Community In Zamfara With Remodeled Primary Health Centre, Ambulance

The Nigerian Army (NA) has improved healthcare access for the Kanoma community in Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, with the handover of a fully remodeled and renovated Primary Health Centre and an ambulance. The initiative is part of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Project, demonstrating the NA’s commitment to the well-being and development of communities beyond traditional security measures.

Representing the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Commander 1 Brigade Zamfara, Brigadier General Mustapha Jimoh Zamfara, emphasized the NA’s belief that a healthy community is fundamental to a safe and secure society. “This project reflects our understanding that security extends beyond the battlefield,” Brigadier General Jimmy stated. “It encompasses the health, welfare, and overall development of the people we serve.”

Major General Abdullahi Kanoma, the project facilitator and an Indigene of the Kanoma community, expressed his deep connection to the project. “This initiative is driven by a desire to contribute to the development of my community,” he said. “This facility is now entrusted to your care. I urge community leaders, healthcare workers, and all residents of Kanoma to take ownership of this health centre, maintain it diligently, and ensure it serves its intended purpose: to provide quality and accessible healthcare for all.”

The project surpervisor Brigadier General Abubakar Danladi, highlighted the previous state of the health centre. “The facility was in a state of disrepair and lacked essential amenities,” he explained. “Recognizing this need, the COAS generously approved funding for the complete remodeling and renovation of the health centre, demonstrating his commitment to improving the lives of the people of Kanoma.”

Brigadier General Danladi further noted that the comprehensive renovation included complete remodeling and renovation of the primary health centre building, Construction of security posts to ensure the safety of staff and patients,installation of new drug drawers for organized medication storage and landscaping to create a welcoming and therapeutic environment. Others include complete rewiring and electrical upgrades,provision of a new ambulance to facilitate timely patient transport.

He reiterated that the project aligns with the COAS’s Command Philosophy, which aims to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment. He stated that by investing in the health and well-being of communities, the NA is contributing to a more secure and prosperous future for all.

The handover ceremony was attended by prominent figures including the Chairman of Maru LGA, Honourable Bello Muhammad Jabaka; the Emir of Maru, Abubakar Gado Maigari; a representative of the Emir of Dausadau, Alhaji Muhammadu Dado Dausadau and representatives from the Kanoma and Maru communities.
