Nigerian Army Holds Inter-Brigade Sports Festival
The 2 Division inter-brigade sports festival 2018 held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp Iseyin, Oyo state from 17-19 September 2018.
The 2 Division, Nigerian Army continue to train and retrain her troops, by engaging them in routine inter-brigade competitions. As part of the efforts of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Maj Gen Okwudili Fidelis Azinta, to keep troops of 2 Division physically and mentally robust, the Division has just concluded an Inter-brigade sports competition. These routine competitions are meant to mitigate the myriads of challenges that daily confronts the Nigerian Army in internal security situations. ” This competition would not have come at a better time than now that Nigerian Army personnel are required to survive in a very tough and challenging operating environment” , the GOC stressed in his remarks, at the closing ceremony, where he was ably represented by the Chief of Staff 2 Division, Brig Gen FO Omoigui.
The competition is aimed at selecting a formidable Team that will represent the Division at the forthcoming Nigerian Army Sports Festival (NASFEST) in October 2018. The overall result of the competition was as follows : 2 Division Garrison came 1st position, 42 Engineers Brigade 2nd, 52 Signals Brigade 3rd, 4 Brigade 4th position, 32 Brigade 5th and 22 Brigade came last position.
At the closing ceremony, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Oyo State, Hon. Abayomi Oke was the Special Guest of Honour. In his closing remarks he congratulated the winning formation and the selected athletes that will represent the Division at the forthcoming NASFEST 2018.
