
Nigerian Army Holds Leadership Awareness and Development Course For SNCOs In 3 Division and Operation Enduring Peace
In a bid to bolster leadership competence and professionalism within its ranks, the Nigerian Army has organised a Leadership Awareness and Development Course for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) of Headquarters 3 Division and Operation ENDURING PEACE. The week-long programme kicked off on Monday, 13 October 2025, at the 3 Division Auditorium, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.
The objective of the course is to promote effective leadership, reinforce the chain of command, and deepen SNCOs’ understanding of the Nigerian Army’s organisational structure.
Speaking at the inauguration, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander Operation ENDURING PEACE Major General Folusho Oyinlola underscored the importance of ongoing professional development in sustaining the Army’s operational efficiency. He described the training as a critical initiative designed to equip SNCOs who serve as the vital link between officers and soldiers with the leadership skills necessary to discharge their duties effectively. “This course represents our unrelenting drive toward excellence and professional growth. It underscores the imperative to reinforce leadership capabilities among our Senior Non-Commissioned Officers who remain the backbone of unit cohesion and discipline,” the GOC said. He also noted that the training aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldier First” concept and the strategic aim of building a combat-ready, resilient, and well-motivated force capable of discharging its responsibility within a joint and multi-agency environments.
The GOC congratulated the selected participants and urged them to approach the programme with open minds, intellectual curiosity, and a readiness to engage meaningfully. He expressed confidence that the course would yield lasting gains in leadership performance and overall mission effectiveness.
In his remarks, the Director General (DG), Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Major General James Myam (retired) highlighted the central role of leadership and the chain of command in military operations. Represented by Maj Gen Sanusi Dahiru, the Executive Director Consult NARC, the DG emphasized the importance of active participation, experience-sharing, and internalization of the course lessons to strengthen leaders across formations. Maj Gen Dahiru explained that the program, conducted across all Nigerian Army Divisions, aims to standardize leadership training for SNCOs to enhance professionalism, discipline, and operational synergy. Key thematic areas include leadership development, evolving security dynamics, decision-making, and adherence to the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, which serves as a compass for effective leadership, accountability, and mission accomplishment.
The opening ceremony featured the presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph to mark the occasion. The course continues as SNCOs engage in a series of lectures, workshops, and discussions designed to elevate leadership capacity within the Nigerian Army’s force structures.
