Nigerian Army Holds Public Speaking Engagement For Students Of Baptist High School, Saki, Oyo State, Urges For Career Path In The NA

The Headquarters 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), held a public speaking engagement for secondary school students of Baptist High School, Saki, Oyo State. The event which took place at the school on Friday 4 July 2025, was part of preparations to mark the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), 2025, which will climax on 6 July 2025 in Kaduna State. It was aimed at highlighting the history, organization, and roles of the NA, with a view to encouraging the students to consider possible career development in the NA.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division NA, Major General Obinna Onubogu, who was represented by the Commandant, Command Science Secondary School Saki, Lieutenant Colonel Adebayo Akinfaderin, while speaking to the students, urged them to take their studies seriously, as well as remain discipline and loyal to the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN). He said the NA enjoins them to keep to the constitutional demands of Nigeria. “This public speaking should serve as a suitable opportunity for you to reaffirm your faith and commitment to Nigeria, while contributing your quota to nation building”, General Onubogu added. He further appreciated the authorities of the host school, for availing NA the opportunity to speak to the students; noting that their participation during the interactive session was very impressive and evident of their commitment towards achieving success.

Speaking further, the GOC, encouraged students to consider taking up career paths in the NA; adding that they should be guided by genuine passion to maximize anticipated benefits afterwards. He also added that the opportunity to interact with the students during the event has exposed the specific areas where they encounter challenges in school and at their respective homes. He therefore, encouraged parents and teachers to sustain adequate guidance of their children, ensuring they uphold good characters which will make them worthy citizens of Nigeria.

In a remark, the Principal, Baptist High School Saki, Mrs Christiana Oyeniron, appreciated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for the laudable initiative. She said Nigerians are well aware and thankful to NA troops for the significant roles they play in securing the lives and property of citizens, and protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria. She further commended the COAS for his exemplary leadership, noting that the public speaking engagement with students of Baptist High School adds up to several Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects which the NA has continued to execute across Nigeria under his leadership, would remain effective instruments for sustaining good Civil Military Relationships between the NA and its diverse publics. “I am glad to see that this historic event is very informative, and I have no doubt that my students are now well informed about the NA, and would develop the urge to become proud members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN)”, she said.

There were presentations on basic ethical topics and a career guide during the event. In this regard, students were encouraged to uphold the principles of patriotism, honesty, and integrity; and also obey constituted authorities. They were equally admonished to desist from all forms of criminality, acts of cultism, drug abuse and other vices which are dangerous to their health, and capable of thwarting their future ambitions.

While delivering vote of thanks, the Head Girl, Baptist High School Saki, Olarinwaju Salome, appreciated the NA for the lectures delivered on basic ethical principles and possible career opportunity for students. She said the lectures and video clips were educative and have equipped her and other students with the knowledge of NA roles; availing them a guide on the necessary steps towards considering possible career development in the NA.

The event witnessed large turn out of students, teachers of Baptist High School, Saki; as well as officers and soldiers of HQ 2 Division NA. Highpoints of the event were presentation of educational materials and souvenirs to students and staff of the school.
