
Nigerian Army Intelligence Trainees Deepen Border Security Synergy With Customs, Immigration At Seme
In a concerted effort to enhance practical knowledge and foster inter-agency cooperation, students of the Nigerian Army Intelligence School on Second Quarter Courses 2025, undertook an operational study tour to Seme Border. The strategic visit which is a key component of the school’s academic curriculum was led by the Deputy Commandant, Colonel TA Yakubu, representing the Acting Commandant of the School, Brigadier General KN Nwoko.
The visit aimed to expose participants to real-world border dynamics, improve their understanding of intelligence-led security operations and strengthen collaborative frameworks among agencies combating transnational threats such as smuggling, irregular migration and cross-border criminality.
Receiving the Officers, the Comptrollers of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and Nigerian Immigration Service (NISq) at Seme, Ben Oramalugo, and Abdullahi Adamu highlighted the operational realities at the border, including the challenges posed by illicit trade, human trafficking, and the integration of intelligence in modern border security. The participants were further exposed to key boarder installations such as checkpoints and surveillance hubs, where they were introduced to advanced monitoring technologies including biometric scanners, inspection systems, the Migration Information Data Analysis System (MIDAS) and real-time surveillance platforms.
In his remarks, the Deputy Commandant, Colonel Yakubu underscored the significance of the tour in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision to bolster inter-agency synergy and intelligence cooperation, which he said the NCS and NIS leadership welcomed the initiative. He further revealed the commitment of the leadership of the NCS and NIS’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the Nigerian Army.
The tour featured interactive engagements with frontline operatives, allowing students to observe live border patrols and screening procedures.
These first-hand experiences offered critical insight into the complexities of securing Nigeria’s borders and reinforced the imperative of integrated intelligence and coordinated action. It also reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to inter-agency training as a cornerstone of national security operations.
