Nigerian Army Plays Important Role In Curbing Criminality In Akwa Ibom State – Governor Umo Eno

…GOC tours Formations and Units in Akwa Ibom

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno has reiterated that the Nigerian Army (NA) plays an important role in curbing criminality in Akwa Ibom State. He made this known, when the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah paid him a courtesy call at Government House, Uyo on 25 February 2025.

Governor Eno thanked the NA for ensuring that Akwa Ibom State remains one of the most peaceful state in the region. He equally appreciated the good job the troops are doing in the State, particularly along the waterways as well as the good Civil-Military relationship they have maintained with the people of the State. He assured that the State Government will continue to support the NA and other security agencies to do their jobs better.

Speaking earlier, the GOC, Major General Emekah said he was in the state to assess the operational readiness of his units and also formally introduce himself to the Governor as the new GOC. He further highlighted the task of 6 Division in the region, which he said is basically the protection of critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as ensuring security in the region. He assured that the Division under his watch will continue to support the State.

While in Akwa Ibom, the GOC paid homage to the Oku Ibom Ibibio and President General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Daniel Etuk OFR, at his palace in Ikot Ukobo, Nsit Ubium LGA. The GOC informed the royal father that he was in Akwa Ibom to introduce himself as the new GOC, and ensure security in the State. He further said he decided to visit his palace to seek for royal and fatherly blessings, as he settles down to perform his duties. His Eminence thanked the GOC for the visit and reaffirmed the enormity of the responsibilities bestowed on his shoulders. He assured the GOC that Akwa Ibom is known for peace and will support him to succeed.

The GOC also visited Seplat Energy company at Ibeno, where he interacted with the management team. The General Manager, Operations, Joint Ventures, Mr John Itsueli with his team had fruitful engagement with the GOC.

Relatedly, in continuation with his familiarization visits, the GOC visited formations within 2 Brigade’s Area of Responsibility. During the visits, he addressed the troops, where he charged them to continue to work as a team, urging them to be discipline and professional in discharging their duties. He appreciated them for a job well-done and resonated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede “Soldiers First” mantra, reassuring that their welfare have been prioritised. He however, warned them not to be involved in any form of illegality.

The formations and units visited included Headquarters, 2 Brigade at Mbiokporo Military Cantonment, 2 Division Garrison, Idoro, 6 Battalion, Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa – Abak and a Forward Operations Base located Uta-Ewa Jetty at Ikot Abasi LGA.
